There is a moment each September when day and night come into near balance.
The autumn equinox.
Light and darkness meet almost equally before the season begins its gradual turn toward longer nights.
It’s a beautiful moment in nature.
And it gives us an opportunity to think about something we spend so much of our lives trying to find:
Balance.
We talk about finding balance as though it is a place we eventually arrive.
As if one day we will finally figure out how to give exactly the right amount of time to work, family, relationships, responsibilities, rest, health, creativity, and ourselves.
And then somehow keep everything perfectly balanced from that point forward.
But nature shows us something different.
Balance was never meant to stay still.

⚖️ Balance Is Always Moving
Think about the seasons.
There are times of growth and times of rest.
Times when the days stretch long into the evening and times when darkness arrives early.
Times when nature is bursting with activity and times when everything seems quiet.
None of these seasons are wrong.
Nature simply adjusts.
Maybe we can too.
There will be seasons when one part of your life needs more from you.
There will be days when you have energy to give and days when you need to receive.
There will be times for movement.
Times for stillness.
Times for connection.
Times for solitude.
Balance doesn't necessarily mean giving everything equal attention.
Sometimes balance means recognizing what needs you most right now—including yourself.
🌿 When Life Feels Out of Balance
Most of us know the feeling.
Too much to do.
Too many people needing something.
Too much noise.
Not enough rest.
Or sometimes the opposite.
Too much stillness.
Not enough connection.
Not enough creativity, movement, joy, or purpose.
We often notice imbalance because something inside us begins asking for our attention.
We feel restless.
Drained.
Disconnected.
Overwhelmed.
Maybe instead of seeing those feelings as something to push through, we can become curious about them.
What are they trying to tell us?
Perhaps feeling out of balance isn't a failure.
Perhaps it's information.

🍃 What Do You Need More Of?
When life feels off, we often immediately think about what we need to eliminate.
What should I stop doing?
What can I remove?
What do I need less of?
Those can be important questions.
But there is another one worth asking:
What do I need more of?
More rest?
More movement?
More time outside?
More creativity?
More laughter?
More connection?
More quiet?
More time alone?
Sometimes balance isn't found by taking something away.
Sometimes it comes from bringing something back.
Something we've been missing without even realizing it.

☀️ Honoring Both Light and Dark
The equinox reminds us that light and darkness both belong.
And maybe the same is true within us.
We don't have to feel positive every moment.
We don't have to be productive every day.
We don't have to constantly improve ourselves.
There are bright, expansive parts of life.
And there are quieter, heavier, more reflective ones.
Both can teach us something.
Finding balance isn't about choosing one over the other.
It's learning how to make room for the whole experience.
Joy and sadness.
Movement and rest.
Giving and receiving.
Holding on and letting go.
Knowing and not knowing.
We are allowed to contain both.
💎 Crystal Wisdom for Balance
Crystals can serve as beautiful reminders to check in with ourselves and notice where we may need a little more support.
Fluorite is often associated with balance, clarity, and organization. It can be a helpful stone to reach for when life feels scattered or when your energy seems to be moving in too many directions at once.
Black Tourmaline is traditionally associated with grounding and protection. It can remind us to come back into our bodies, reconnect with the present moment, and create healthy energetic boundaries.
Clear Quartz is often used for clarity and intention. Because it is commonly considered an amplifier in crystal practices, it can be paired with your own intention for greater balance and awareness.
You might choose one to carry with you, place near your workspace, or simply hold for a few quiet moments while checking in with yourself.

🍂 A Simple Equinox Practice
Around the autumn equinox, take a few minutes to create two lists.
On one side, write:
What has been receiving most of my energy lately?
On the other:
What has been asking for more of my attention?
Look at both without judging yourself.
You may notice something immediately.
Then ask:
What is one small adjustment that would help me feel more balanced right now?
Not ten things.
Just one.
Maybe it's going to bed earlier.
Taking a walk.
Calling someone you love.
Saying no to something.
Returning to something creative.
Putting your phone down.
Sitting outside for ten quiet minutes.
Balance doesn't always require a complete overhaul.
Sometimes it begins with one small adjustment.
💙 A Note From Me
I used to think balance meant getting everything under control.
Everything handled.
Everything in its proper place.
And then maybe I could finally relax.
But life doesn't stay still long enough for that.
Something is always changing.
Our responsibilities change.
Our bodies change.
Our relationships change.
Our priorities change.
We change.
So maybe balance isn't something we find once.
Maybe it's something we keep returning to.
A conversation with ourselves.
How am I doing?
What do I need?
Where is too much of my energy going?
What have I been neglecting?
And then we adjust.
Again and again.
Just as nature does.
The equinox gives us one beautiful moment of near-equal light and darkness.
And then the balance shifts again.
Maybe that's the lesson.
Balance isn't standing perfectly still.
It's learning how to move with your life.
With love,
Tracey 💙
