DIY Palo Santo Projects: Crafting Incense Cones & Making Your Own Palo Santo Spray

Palo Santo, known as “Holy Wood,” has been used for centuries in sacred rituals and spiritual practices. Whether you're looking to cleanse your space, enhance your meditation, or simply enjoy the calming aroma of this sacred wood, we’re here to show you how to get creative with Palo Santo!

In this post, we’ll guide you through two simple, yet magical, DIY projects: making your own Palo Santo incense cones and crafting an energy-clearing Palo Santo spray. These projects are perfect for personal use or to gift to loved ones who appreciate the healing power of Palo Santo.

DIY Palo Santo Incense Cones

Making your own Palo Santo incense cones is a fun and fulfilling way to incorporate the sacred wood into your rituals. Here’s a simple recipe that will help you create your own custom incense cones using milled Palo Santo and a few other basic ingredients.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 oz milled Palo Santo (available in our shop)

  • 1/2 tsp Makko powder (a natural binder for incense)

  • Water (to form the dough-like consistency)

  • A small bowl and spoon

  • Incense cone mold or your hands for shaping

Instructions:

  1. Mix the Ingredients: In a bowl, combine 1 oz of milled Palo Santo with 1/2 tsp of Makko powder. Slowly add water, a few drops at a time, until the mixture turns into a dough-like consistency.

  2. Shape the Cones: Take small portions of the dough and roll them into cone shapes using your hands. If you have an incense cone mold, use that for a more uniform shape.

  3. Let Them Dry:

    • Natural Drying: Place your shaped cones on a flat surface and let them dry for 2-3 days, ensuring they’re fully dried before burning.

    • Faster Drying (Oven or Air Fryer):

      • Oven Method: Preheat your oven to 150-170°F (65-75°C). Place the cones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and leave the oven door slightly ajar to allow moisture to escape. Dry for 1-2 hours, checking every 15 minutes.

      • Air Fryer Method: Set your air fryer to 150°F (65°C) or the lowest setting. Arrange the cones in a single layer, ensuring they don’t touch each other. Air fry for 20-30 minutes, checking every 10 minutes to ensure they’re not over-drying or burning.

  4. Burn and Enjoy: Light the tip of the cone, let it burn for a few seconds, then blow out the flame. Allow the cone to smolder, releasing the calming, cleansing smoke.

You can also watch me make these cones in my upcoming instructional reel! I’ll show you each step, from mixing to shaping, so you can make your own Palo Santo incense cones with ease.

DIY Palo Santo Spray for Energy Cleansing

Crafting your own Palo Santo spray is a wonderful way to cleanse your space, your crystals, or even yourself with the sacred energy of Palo Santo. This mist can be used to purify your surroundings and enhance your spiritual practice.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 tsp milled Palo Santo (available in our shop)

  • 1 oz distilled water

  • 1 tsp witch hazel (or vodka for a stronger base)

  • Optional: 3-5 drops of essential oils (Lavender, Sage, Frankincense, etc.)

  • A small spray bottle (2 oz works great)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Infusion: In a small jar, add 1 tsp of milled Palo Santo. Pour in 1 oz of distilled water and 1 tsp of witch hazel or vodka.

  2. Let It Infuse: Allow the mixture to sit for 24 hours. This will allow the Palo Santo to infuse into the water, imbuing it with its sacred energy. Shake occasionally.

  3. Strain and Transfer: After 24 hours, strain the mixture into your spray bottle, discarding the Palo Santo. If you’d like, you can add 3-5 drops of your favorite essential oils to enhance the aroma.

  4. Use and Cleanse: Spray the mist around your room, over your crystals, or even on yourself for an uplifting and cleansing experience.
